When to use the short-form negative
The short-form negative (〜ない form) expresses that something does not or will not happen.
It is the casual/plain style equivalent of polite ~ません.
Informal statements:
行かない ("I don't / won't go")
Casual conversation:
食べない ("I don't eat / I won't eat")
Negative questions:
飲まない? ("Don't you drink?" / "Won't you drink?")
Modifying nouns:
読まない本 ("a book [I] don't read")
